Hydroformed through the application of very high levels of hydraulic pressure, the steel front frame section is stronger, lighter and more precise than conventional welded steel frames.

The mid-frame begins as a solid, straight piece of high-strength steel. The steel is then rolled into shape without stamping, allowing it to retain its strength with no added mass.

The rear frame is a strong straight-rail design (on Chassis Cab only) that easily accepts a variety of trailer hitches. It also enhances towing ability.

Advice

Choosing the Right Model

Sierras provide a wide variety of cab types, powertrains, payload and trailering capacities for use in commercial applications. In fact, there are so many choices, a detailed review of requirements with a knowledgeable salesperson is recommended to ensure proper truck selection.

Obviously, payload capacity is paramount. Selecting a 1500 series to do the work of a one-ton pickup is false economy as the result will be unsatisfactory performance and premature failures. Special applications such as snow plowing or trailering can place abnormally high loads on the front or rear axle components. For example, a typical 8 foot snow plow requires at least a 2500 HD pickup to provide sufficient front Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) to handle this extra weight.

Sierra 3500 Dual Rear Wheel models have dual rear wheels that provide and extra measure of loading stability, traction and braking - important attributes when towing heavy 5th-wheel trailers.
